ground zero

So I got my old computer back, I gave it to a friend, he gave it to his friend. and then I got it back. Kept it in the attic. now what was really a lot of fun to discover, was that the BIOS on the motherboard had this cool recovery feature that was still working. (it basically created an image file that was kept on the hard drive. So win xp, and all my old programs and drivers were there.
but of course I got this message when I booted up the computer.

the most terrible thing about this computer is that it is LOUD! I mean like a vacuum cleaner. And the noise is coming from the graphics card. So we are gonna replace that graphics card for a silent one. I was thinking of a GT730. I'm also gonna replace the graphics card, and the mechanical HDD for a nice SSD. and I was thinking about spray painting it in desert camo colors. perhaps add some more ram. and of course replace the stock cooler on my processor. Thinking maybe a hyper eve 212.

investigating the motherboard, I noticed I have 4 sata ports (NICE!). I wouldn't want to be a poo-poo head with only IDE ports. ;)

some more photos.

  1. Awesome man! Do you think the 212 EVO fits on this CPU? That would probably bring down the noise (and temperature) quite a bit! Going with the passive GPU and SSD will make your system really quiet!
